“this is a spiritual exercise, which is so foreign to us. nobody in
their right mind, in the world, would come to church on sunday, and monday, and
tuesday, and wednesday, and thursday, and friday, and saturday, and sunday.
unless, of course, we believe that what we do here matters. unless, of course,
we believe, as the canon said, that, ‘judgment stands at the door.’ it would be
easy for the world to say, ‘what you’re doing is crazy!’ but we’re here tonight
because we know that we are not yet who God wants us to be.”
